Brazilian defender to undergo Chelsea medical this week
Thiago Silva will undergo his medical with Chelsea on Thursday before putting pen to paper on an initial one-year contract.
The Brazil international has spent the past eight years at Paris Saint-Germain, but he is set to pursue a fresh challenge after failing to receive a suitable extension.
According to Sky Sports News, the Blues are on course to sign the experienced defender and he will undergo a series of medical tests with the club in the next 48 hours.
The 35-year-old will sign a one-year contract with Frank Lampard's side and the deal will include the option for another 12 months, which can be triggered by either side.
Silva is expected to command a starting role on his move to Stamford Bridge and reports claim that Lampard plans to hand him the captain's armband for the 2020/21 campaign.
Chelsea have been very active with regards to their summer transfer business and they have already landed Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner from Ajax and RB Leipzig respectively.
Aside from Silva, they are expected to sign Bayer Leverkusen attacker Kai Havertz and Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell. Former Nice centre-back Malang Sarr could also join them on a free transfer.
