Arsenal still hopeful of signing French midfielder
Arsenal remain hopeful of signing midfielder Houssem Aouar from Lyon despite the £53.5m asking price on his head.
The 22-year-old has been linked with the Gunners for a number of months and his reputation has been boosted by a strong showing in the backend of last season's Champions League.
Aouar was initially valued at around £40m in the transfer market, but his standout displays against Juventus and Manchester City have meant that Les Gones have raised his price tag to £53.5m.
That will certainly prove a blow for Mikel Arteta's side, who are working on a limited transfer budget, but Foot Mercato claims that the club have not given up on their pursuit.
Aouar registered nine goals and 10 assists for Les Gones last term. He recently earned his maiden call-up to the France national side, but had to withdraw after being diagnosed with COVID-19.
Arsenal are aiming to sign at least two midfielders this summer, but they must raise funds through player sales. Both Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi could head for the exit door.
