Emiliano Martinez to sign new Arsenal contract?
Arsenal are prepared to end the speculation over Emiliano Martinez's future by handing him a new long-term contract
The Argentine goalkeeper impressed in the injury absence of Bernd Leno during the final weeks of the previous season and he continued the good form in the recent Community Shield win over Liverpool.
According to The Mirror, the north London side have no plans of selling Martinez this summer despite the interest from the likes of Leeds United and Aston Villa.
Martinez's current deal expires in June 2022 and manager Mikel Arteta is desperate to keep hold of him by offering a new long-term deal with a reasonable salary hike.
The 27-year-old has played second fiddle to Leno for the Premier League duties, and he may have to drop to the bench for the opening game against Fulham on September 12.
Aside from Martinez, Arteta is also keen on committing Ainsley Maitland-Niles to a fresh deal. The Spaniard is aiming to recoup transfer funds from the sale of other players such as Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi.
