Ethan Ampadu set for second loan term
Chelsea and Wales defender Ethan Ampadu is near completing a loan move to fellow Premier League side Sheffield United for the upcoming campaign.
The 19-year-old spent the 2019-20 season on a frustrating loan at Bundesliga side RB Leipzig which only included three appearances - most notably during a 1-0 victory to Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League.
The former Exeter City youngster has featured more times for his country than his current and previous clubs, and looks set to spend another spell away from Stamford Bridge with the intention of securing guaranteed game time.
Despite becoming the Blues' first player born in the 2000's to appear for the first team in 2017 under Antonio Conte, Ampadu has struggled solidify his status as a regular at Chelsea, only making a further 11 appearances in all competitions.
The Welshman is played primarily as a centre back but can also play as a defensive midfielder, with his versatility providing Blades boss Chris Wilder with a growing chance to improve on their surprising ninth-placed finish last season.
The potential loan signing of Ampadu could be one of three new recruits this week for the South Yorkshiremen, with Derby duo Jayden Bogle and Max Lowe both completing medicals and on the verge of finalising moves to Bramall Lane.
