Chelsea enter crucial talks to sign Ligue 1 goalkeeper
Chelsea have reportedly entered into concrete negotiations with Rennes over a potential deal for goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
The Senegal international has emerged as the Blues' prime target to provide competition to Kepa Arrizabalaga for the number one role next season.
Earlier last month, they failed with a £15m bid for his services and The Sun now claims that they have entered crucial talks with the French outfit.
Rennes are looking for at least £30m for the 28-year-old shot-stopper and it remains to be seen whether Frank Lampard's side can negotiate a lesser fee.
The Blues have already signed Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr, Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz this summer for a combined £200m.
Lampard is keen on signing a new goalkeeper before the transfer deadline next month while it is widely reported that they could make a serious attempt to land Declan Rice from West Ham United.
The England international is capable of featuring in the central defence or in the midfield. Lampard considers him as a potential candidate to play in the middle of a back three.
