Jamie Carragher says Liverpool star should be benched
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes Roberto Firmino should spend some time on the bench amid his average run of form.
Firmino has been a consistent starter for Jurgen Klopp in the front three where he has been accompanied by Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
Over the past year, he has struggled to find the back of the net regularly and Carragher feels the striker should drop to the bench for a few games.
"Even though Liverpool won the league, certain things got masked. Firmino didn’t score a goal at home until the last game until Chelsea," He told TalkSPORT.
"It doesn’t mean if he goes out and Jota goes in that that’s the end of his career. He should just sit on the bench for three or four games."
Firmino has impressed with his ball-winning ability and the knack of starting counter-attacks with his precise distribution in the final third.
Still, he has lacked the consistency in front of goal and there have been calls for Jota to feature in the front three ahead of him.
Both players started the 1-1 draw at Manchester City. Jota played on the right wing while Firmino occupied the number 10 role.
Should Klopp revert to the 4-3-3 formation, he will have a tough decision to make. Jota has netted seven goals this term compared to Firmino's one.
