Barcelona confirm likely departure for Arsenal target Neto
Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has confirmed that Spanish keeper Neto will be likely departing the Nou Camp this January transfer window, amidst interest from abroad from Premier League side Arsenal. The Gunners are keen to sign a backup goalkeeper.
With some worrying displays from Icelandic goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is seeking a backup for current club number 1 Bernd Leno, and has identified Barca man Neto as his primary target.
The 31-year-old has appeared only 14 times since a move from Valencia and thus wants to depart for pastures new, with Arsenal believed to be his first option. It is understood that other sides are monitoring the player's transfer situation, including former Arsenal manager Unai Emery's current team, Villarreal.
Arsenal will need to pay around 3 million euros to secure a deal for Neto, who has around two and a half years remaining on his deal with the La Liga side.
Koeman told reporters: "I’ve said several times for some players it could be good for them to have more minutes to improve as players.
“Neto is a different case, it’s true his agent asked the club to move on and we said no because he’s important for us and we want to have all positions covered.”
