Chelsea have made an offer to sign Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule, a report from German outlet Abendzeitung claims.

Dayot Upamecano is expected to arrive at the European champions this summer and this has raised doubts over the future of Sule.

Sule's current deal expires in 16 months' time and the club have yet to open negotiations over a renewal beyond that period.

According to Abendzeitung, Bayern plan to utilise Lucas Hernandez at the heart of the defence with the arrival of Reading left-back Omar Richards.

It is added that may drop Sule below the pecking order with the club also planning to pursue another centre-back during the summer.

Blues boss Thomas Tuchel is obviously a huge admirer of Sule and it is claimed that the Blues have already tabled an offer to sign him.

Sule could be available for around £25m this summer, but the defender will demand a significant rise on his current wages.

Meanwhile, Bayern have yet to renew Jerome Boateng's deal beyond June and he could leave on a free alongside David Alaba.
