Chelsea defender ready to sign fresh contract

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva is reportedly prepared to extend his stay with the club for another campaign.

The Brazilian signed for the Blues on a free transfer last summer and he has already made 21 appearances for them.

He has been on the sidelines for the last six weeks with a hamstring problem, but is still regarded as a key player.

According to The Express, the 36-year-old has a 12-month option on his contract which may be triggered by mutual agreement.

The Blues have given the go-ahead for the renewal and Silva is ready to sign a one-year extension in the near future.

Thomas Tuchel's side have not missed the services of Silva over the past few weeks with Andreas Christensen filling the void with success.

The Dane's contract expires at the end of next season and reports claim that the Blues are planning to extend his stay.

Antonio Rudiger is another player, who has revived his career under Tuchel and is set to be handed a new contract.
