Liverpool to sign Turkish defender for just £9m?
Liverpool are reportedly exploring the option of a permanent deal for Schalke 04 defender Ozan Kabak.
The Turkey international joined the Reds on loan in January with the option to buy for £18m at the end of the season.
In the injury absence of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, Kabak has started seven of the previous eight league games.
According to Football Insider, the Reds are looking into a permanent deal for the 21-year-old, but are unlikely to trigger the buy clause.
Instead, they are aiming to sign him for half the figure as they look to exploit the German club's tight financial situation.
The Gelsenkirchen outfit have plenty of debts, and they are currently on course for relegation from Bundesliga after three decades.
The club are likely to cash in on most of their leading stars, and may have to accept cut-price deals after a dismal campaign.
Schalke have changed four managers this term, but have picked up only 10 points from 26 games in the German top-flight.
