Chelsea earn hard fought point
Chelsea managed a 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday night to give them a very important away goal. Liverpool took the lead through Dirk Kuyt early on to send the Anfield crowd into raptures, but a calamitous John Arne Riise own goal brought Chelsea back into the game.
Even more painful for Liverpool was the fact that the own goal from Riise came five minutes into injury time at Anfield.
Petr Cech was outstanding twice denying Fernando Torres from close range.
Frank Lampard thought his side should have had a penalty when Didier Drogba went down in the box after a challenge by Jamie Carragher early on.
Liverpool took the lead on 42 minutes as a misplaced Javier Mascherano shot was picked up by Dirk Kuyt who smashed the ball home.
Liverpool held out for the majority of the second half until disaster struck and Riise headed the ball into his own net from a Salomon Kalou cross.
