Liverpool never opened talks with Serie A midfielder
Liverpool have not made any contact with Inter Milan to sign midfielder Nicolo Barella, reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano claims.
The Reds parted ways with Georginio Wijnaldum at the expiry of his contract this summer, and they were fancied to sign a replacement.
Barella was talked about as a potential transfer target, but ultimately, the Reds went into the current campaign without pursuing another midfielder.
The Italian has continued to be associated with the club, but Romano has claimed that there has been no kind of enquiry for his services.
Inter chief Giuseppe Marotta recently said that talks are advanced with Barella over a new five year deal, and it appears only a matter of time.
Romano tweeted: "Nicolo Barella is set to extend his contract with Inter. New deal will be for next five years with increased salary. Liverpool never opened talks to sign him despite rumours."
The Reds have made a sublime start to the current Premier League campaign. They are currently one point behind leaders Chelsea.
The club recently registered a stunning 5-0 win over Manchester United on the road. Mohamed Salah starred with a superb hat-trick.
