Manchester City favourites to land Liverpool target
Manchester City are deemed favourites to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Braut Haaland next summer, according to Sky Germany.
The Cityzens were eager to sign a new striker over the summer, but they were unable to pursue any of their preferred transfer targets.
Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane was the main choice for them, but they were put off by the staggering £150m valuation set by Spurs.
It appeared that they could make a shock move for Cristiano Ronaldo, but he ended up making a sensational return to Manchester United.
According to Sky Germany, Haaland is now the prime target for the Cityzens, and they are willing to meet his £68m release clause.
Haaland's buy-out clause will become active next summer, and the Cityzens are confident of luring him despite Dortmund's reluctance.
Dortmund are hoping to double Haaland's wages from €9m to €18m per year in order to postpone his clause for another 12 months.
However, Haaland could snub their proposal with the prospect of joining Pep Guardiola's side to compete for regular silverware.
Liverpool have also been credited with an interest, but the overall financial package including agent fees could put them off.
Jurgen Klopp is undecided over the future of Roberto Firmino. Any move for a new striker will depend on the Brazilian leaving.
