Chelsea make breakthrough in contract talks with defender

Andreas Christensen news

Christensen set to sign new Chelsea contract

Chelsea have made a breakthrough in the contract negotiations with Andreas Christensen, Football Insider claims.

The Blues recently reached a contract impasse with the centre-back, but they appear to have found a resolution.

The centre-back was holding out for a three-year renewal, but he has now agreed to extend his stay for five seasons.

Meanwhile, the club's hierarchy have also sorted differences with his agent, and an announcement is expected soon.

Christensen's existing deal expires at the end of the season, but he is now expected to sign a contract until June 2026.

Aside from the Dane, Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger also have their contracts expiring next summer.

Azpilicueta and Silva are likely to pen one-year deals soon, but Rudiger has refused to negotiate amid salary differences.

The Blues are reluctant to meet his £200,000-a-week demands, and the German could walk away on a free transfer.

Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are all interested in signing the former Roma centre-back.
