Newcastle United want to sign former Liverpool target
Newcastle United have their sights on landing Lille centre-back Sven Botman during the winter transfer window.
The Magpies are expected to go on a spending spree in January following their takeover from a Saudi-led consortium.
A new centre-back is one of the prime priorities and they have been heavily linked with Burnley's James Tarkowski.
However, according to The Sun, the Magpies seem to be interested in Botman, who was formerly on Liverpool's radar.
Lille are unlikely to sell him on the cheap as they are expected to demand at least £40m up front for the Dutchman.
AC Milan are also interested in signing him at the turn of the year. The Magpies face a tough task of convincing him.
The Tyneside outfit recently suffered a disappointing 4-0 loss to Leicester City. They are still three points adrift of safety.
Eddie Howe has acknowledged that the club are in a difficult situation despite having funds to spend in the New Year.
