Guimaraes makes Toon Army move

Newcastle have completed a £40 million transfer move for Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. The talented Brazilian wrapped up his medical on Sunday morning, and was officially presented to the media as a Newcastle player later in the afternoon.

Eagle-eyed Newcastle fans had spotted the Brazilian arrive at St. James' Park on Saturday, and it is understood Guimaraes said his goodbyes to the Lyon staff on Friday evening.

The Toon Army have beaten Aston Villa and also interest from two unknown German sides in signing the the 24-year-old.

It is hoped that Guimaraes will provide the all around abilities to help stave off relegation, and Eddie Howe has snapped up one of the best players in Ligue 1 with this coup.

Guimaraes has signed a contract until 2026, and will be available for Newcastle's next game against fellow strugglers Everton on the 9th February.

Howe said in an announcement to the club's official website:  "Bruno is a hugely exciting talent and has been one of our primary targets so I'm delighted to secure him. He strengthens the group immediately ready for the challenge ahead.

"He has been one of the standout performers in France and is a full international for Brazil so I have no doubt our supporters will really enjoy watching him. We look forward to welcoming him to the club on his return from international duty."
