Arsenal rejected multiple approaches for club graduate
Arsenal rejected bids from Crystal Palace and Newcastle United for Eddie Nketiah, reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano reports.
The club were initially aiming to sign a marquee striker such that they could part ways with both Nketiah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
However, they were unsuccessful in doing so which meant that Nketiah stayed. Aubameyang was granted a move to Barcelona on deadline day.
The former Gunners captain was initially linked with a loan move, but the Gunners eventually decided to terminate his £350,000-a-week deal.
The decision was mutual with no compensation. The north London giants have saved around £25 million in wages from the striker's departure.
Nketiah has been a regular substitute, and his situation may not improve for the rest of the campaign unless Alexandre Lacazette suffers an injury.
The Frenchman is expected to lead the line for the next 17 Premier League games. He could also leave the club when his contract expires in June.
The Gunners could have a busy summer ahead where they are expected to spend on more than one striker in the transfer window.
