Martinelli: Arsenal's best attacking option?

Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta has strongly hinted that the club may opt not to sign a forward in the summer, despite the departures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the uncertainty over the long term futures of attacking duo Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah. Arteta believes that the club have sufficient strength in the attacking department.

Sensationally, Arsenal are now rumoured to be considering signing another midfielder as opposed to an attacker, as the club are more than happy with the progress of Gabriel Martinelli. The Brazilian can play anywhere in attack, despite his preferred position being on the wings.

“I have played on the wings growing up, but I can play in the middle as well, or on the sides,” Martinelli said last month.

“I can do whatever the manager wants me to do.”

Arteta had recently suggested that Martinelli could offer a long-term option for Arsenal's attacking issues, telling reporters: “He [Martinelli] certainly has the capacity to score goals and be a threat. His contribution and all-round game has been exceptional.”
