Man Utd looking to land West Ham United star?

Manchester United have emerged as surprise contenders to sign West Ham United defender Issa Diop this summer.

The Frenchman has been in-and-out of the starting line-up for the Hammers, and has been touted to pursue a new challenge.

According to Foot Mercato, Monaco and Lyon are interested, but the duo could face competition from the Red Devils.

United were eyeing a deal for Diop in the summer of 2019, but eventually signed Harry Maguire from Leicester.

It is now claimed that they are back in the hunt for the Frenchman, who has been closely followed by Ralf Rangnick.

Rangnick wanted to bring the centre-back to Leipzig a few years ago, and he has recommended the player to United.

It is unclear whether the hierarchy will consider a move, given they are looking at various high-profile players.

While Diop could be available for just €15m, the board may prefer a player of Pau Torres or Jules Kounde's calibre.

Diop was regarded as a future star when he joined the Hammers, but has been a back-up defender for them lately.
