Man Utd pressing to agree deal for 25-year-old

Manchester United are reportedly pressing to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong this summer.

The Dutchman is the Red Devils' number one midfield target, and they are currently in advanced talks with Barcelona.

A package close to €80m is set to be finalised, but the club still need to convince De Jong to make the potential switch.

The 25-year-old is currently reluctant to join the Red Devils as he is keen on playing Champions League football next season.

United manager Erik ten Hag has still not given up on him, and believes he can persuade his former Ajax player to join the club.

The Red Devils are currently the front-runners to sign the versatile midfielder, but Bayern, Man City and PSG are keeping tabs.

All three are capable of offering him Champions League football, and United need a quick deal to avoid the prospect of being hijacked.

If they miss out on De Jong, Sporting's Matheus Nunes could be an option.
