Alexander Isak to join Newcastle for club record fee
Newcastle United will complete the signing of Swedish international forward Alexander Isak for a club record £57.5 million this week, with the 22-year-old signing a five year deal with the St James' Park outfit. According to reports, Isak had asked Real Sociedad to allow him to leave the club, and the former Dortmund striker will link up with his new teammates on Monday morning.
The deal is a huge coup for Newcastle, after Arsenal were amongst the clubs interested in signing the Swede earlier in the summer, before opting to move for Gabriel Jesus instead.
Isak has scored 33 goals in 105 games for Sociedad, and for his country he has scored a further 9 goals in 37 games, and currently leads the line for Sweden.
Isak burst on to the scene aged just 17 in the Swedish top tier, and became the country's youngest ever goal scorer before making a move to Germany with Dortmund. After a period with the club's B team, Sociedad eventually made a move for the player.
What this means for the likes of Callum Wilson at Newcastle, that is currently unclear, but with an injury to the striker, Isak is likely to go straight into the club's starting eleven.
