Chelsea identify Italian midfielder to replace Mason Mount?
Chelsea have identified Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini as a potential replacement for Mason Mount.
The Blues recently committed Reece James to a new six-year deal. In the process, he became one of their highest earners at £250,000-a-week.
Mount is now said to demand an identical salary package to prolong his stay at the club, but the Blues do not believe it is justifiable.
This has led to a contract stand-off between both parties and Calciomercato claim that the Blues have a possible contingency plan in place.
The west London giants will move for Roma captain Pellegrini next summer in case Mount does not show any intention of penning a new deal.
Mount's current contract expires in the summer of 2024. The Blues are bound to consider his sale if he does not renew by the end of the season.
Manchester United and Liverpool are known to be admirers of the England international and they could meet his salary demands as well.
