Thiago Silva ready to sign new Chelsea contract

Brazil and Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has talked up the chances of him signing a new contract with the Blues, saying that talks are well under way and that he plans to extend his playing career by at least another year. 

Since arriving from Paris St Germain, the centre back has been an almost ever present at Stamford Bridge, catching the eye with some impressive displays at the back.

He is expected to continue his good form under newly appointed manager Graham Potter, who indicated that Thiago Silva is an important part of his first team plans.

Silva told reporters: "What I can tell you is for me now, what is important, is to keep playing at a high level and achieving the best results.

"There will be a time to talk, before or after the World Cup, because I will need to know about my future and family arrangements. We will see what will happen."

"I am 38 years old and so maybe I can’t play four or five matches in a row."
