Jurgen Klopp reserves special praise for Liverpool star

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was hugely impressed with defender Joe Gomez following the 1-0 win over Manchester City.

The Reds returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a statement result over the reigning champions at Anfield.

Gomez was one of the stand-out performers from central defence as he comfortably saw off the threat from Erling Haaland.

The England international has had his fair share of injuries over the past few years, but looks to be getting back to his best again.

Against the Cityzens, he was terrific from the central defensive position with six clearances, three tackles and four duels won.

There were no surprises that Klopp was delighted with his showing.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, Klopp told reporters: "It’s just great for Joey that he can show what a player he is."

"Outstanding, outstanding talent, a great player. Today was sensational, a mature performance together with Virgil and the two full-backs."

With the win, Liverpool have jumped to eighth on the table with 13 points, but are still six adrift of the Champions League spots.
