Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has identified Cody Gakpo as the ideal replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo in January.

The Red Devils parted ways with Ronaldo by mutual consent recently and Ten Hag has confirmed that he would like a new striker.

PSV's Cody Gakpo is the leading target for the Dutchman and it is now revealed that he has a good relationship with the manager.

Ten Hag knows the 23-year-old from his coaching days at PSV and he has continued his friendship with the player and his family.

The Dutchman is now hopeful of luring him to Old Trafford. He is prepared to play him as the main striker ahead of Anthony Martial.

Gakpo has been superb for PSV this term with 13 goals and 17 assists from 24 games. He was also good for the Dutch at the World Cup.

Gakpo bagged three goals in the group stage for the Netherlands and was undoubtedly their stand-out performer at the tournament.
