Arsenal to make move for former midfielder Alex Iwobi?

With just six months remaining on the player's contract, Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi appears to be a target for his former club Arsenal, as Mikel Arteta considers bolstering his midfield options ahead of the second half of the Premier League season. Iwobi moved to Everton in 2019 in a deal worth £34 million, and could now return to the Emirates for a cut price £7.5 million.
Iwobi played 100 times for the Gunners between the years of 2015 and 2019, having emerged through the club's youth ranks in which he started his career back in 2004. Now, Iwobi could be set for an emotional return to Arsenal as the 26-year-old considers leaving Goodison Park in search of a new challenge. Iwobi has appeared 101 times for Everton, with a return of five goals.
Arsenal want to add another midfielder to their squad to provide cover for Granit Xhaka, as Mikel Arteta continues to wait on the development of Fabio Vieira. Mohamed Elneny is available, but does not provide the sort of creative cover that Iwobi could provide from a deep midfield role.
During Everton's game with Man Utd in the FA Cup, Iwobi left the field on a stretcher with an ankle injury, but it is believed the injury will only keep him out of action for two months. Everton manager Frank Lampard said of Iwobi: "It's an ankle ligament injury. We're hoping it's a lesser one but I don't know the extent of it yet. He left on crutches."
