Newcastle United hold talks to sign Chelsea target
Newcastle United have entered talks with Everton to sign Anthony Gordon before the transfer deadline, The Telegraph report.
The young attacker was on the radar of Chelsea in the last transfer window but they could not finalise a deal with the Toffees.
The Blues were ready to pay as much as £55m, but the Merseyside outfit were adamant that he won't be sold for any price.
However, the scenario has now changed with their relegation battle. The Toffees need funds to bring in new players.
Gordon is dispensable after the sacking of Frank Lampard as manager and it is reported that a transfer could be done soon.
Chelsea have also made fresh contact with the Toffees, but they are likely to propose staggered payments unlike the Magpies.
Eddie Howe's side are ready to pay a major chunk of the money up front to land Gordon, who has bagged three goals this term.
He is far from a finished article at the moment, but the Magpies are prepared to back his potential with a huge transfer bid.
