Bayern Munich are unlikely to enter the race to sign Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The Croatian is about to enter the final year of his contract with the Blues and contract talks have not progressed thus far.

It is anticipated that he could be sold by the London giants but Bayern are not expected to enter the pursuit of his services.

The German champions currently have Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka as their undisputed starters in the centre of the park.

Meanwhile, they have Ryan Gravenberch as a back-up. Marcel Sabitzer will join him after his short-term loan spell at Manchester United.

The Bundesliga holders are also due to land Konrad Laimer on a free transfer when his contract with Leipzig expires in June.

Hence, they are loaded with central midfield options and they are unlikely to pursue a deal for Kovacic in the next transfer window.

Kovacic could still secure another big club move with Manchester United and Liverpool interested in prising him away this summer.
