Arsenal drop out of race to sign Ivan Toney
Arsenal have reportedly withdrawn their interest in signing forward Ivan Toney for £100 million, after Brentford informed Premier League rivals that the striker may be available for sale in January. Toney, seen as one of the English top flight's best strikers, has been out of action so far this season after suspension for betting breaches.
The Gunners are also joined by Chelsea amongst the clubs looking to sign the Brentford striker, who will return to action in the New Year. It is understood that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is a huge fan of Toney, despite the recent form of England international forward Eddie Nketiah.
With the transfer window opening in January, Arsenal were poised to make a move of around £65 million but after reports that Brentford are seeking at least £100 million for their striker, Arsenal have now pulled out of the race.
That leaves just Chelsea left, and possibly a late move from rivals Manchester United. Toney is said to be desperate to play Champions League football, and will push for a departure from the Bees as soon as possible.
Man Utd's struggles up front this year could yet put them back in the transfer market, whilst Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino wants to add another striker to his ranks in the January transfer window.
