Chelsea and Arsenal competing for Santos wonderkid

Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly interested in landing the signature of Santos wonderkid Joao Pedro Chermont next year, according to Caught Offside.

The 18-year-old has enjoyed a superb breakthrough campaign with Santos this year and he has already made 25 appearances in the Brazilian second tier.

The right-back has been highly consistent with his performances and he has been effective in the final third too with two goals and three assists to his name.

Arsenal and Chelsea have been monitoring his progress and reports claim that they could make approaches for the teenager with a £58 million release clause in his deal.

The Gunners are loaded with right-back options in the squad. Ben White, Jurrien Timber and Takehiro Tomiyasu can all play from the role when fit and available.

The same can't be said at Chelsea. Reece James has been hugely injury prone over the last year and there has been an overdependence on Malo Gusto.

The Blues may want another solid deputy with James' poor injury record.
