Tottenham plot Rio Ferdinand raid

Tottenham plot Rio Ferdinand raid

10 October 2011 - 05:07

Tottenham will attempt to lure Manchester United centre back Rio Ferdinand to White Hart Lane in January, as Spurs attempt to add experience as they look to close the gap on the Premier League's top clubs.

  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs
  • Arsenal in the front row to sign Dutch striker

  • Harry Redknapp has openly admitted that he is a fan of Rio Ferdinand, whilst the recent form of Phil Jones at Old Trafford has seen Sir Alex Ferguson prefer the youngster ahead of Rio in recent games.

Phil Jones has also been selected by England coach Fabio Capello for the first time, and the Italian now has to make some big decisions ahead of Euro 2012 this summer. Ferdinand is desperate to be part of the first team next year, but with Gary Cahill and Phil Jones impressing, and John Terry as captain, Ferdinand finds himself on the bench for his country as well.

Ferdinand could well be tempted for a move away from Man Utd as he looks to rescue his international career, and Tottenham appears to be the best option available.

The centre back also has an option from the MLS, with Chicago Fire reportedly interested, but Ferdinand hopes to stay in England.
