Fulham are reported to be leading the race to sign out of favor Aston Villa striker Darren Bent according to Sky Sports.
Bent, 29 years old, has been restricted to the bench for large parts of the last season due to the fine form of Belgian forward Christian Benteke.
With Benteke having committed his future to Aston Villa, Paul Lambert doesn't consider the England international in his plans for the next season.
Fulham boss Martin Jol is in search for a new striker as he aims to find suitable cover for Bulgarian Dimitar Berbatov. The Cottagers had their initial bid of £4 million rejected by Villa as they stick to their original evaluation of £6 million for the striker.
Newcastle, meanwhile, are also believed to be stepping up their interest in Bent and the striker is set to hold talks to Joe Kinnear later this week.
Alan Pardew has been left frustrated after having failed to lure Bafetimbi Gomis to the club but is still trying to secure the services of QPR striker Loic Remy on a loan deal.
