James Rodriguez agrees terms with Manchester United "in principle"

Manchester United agree terms with James Rodriguez ahead of summer move

13 May 2017 - 07:31

The Real Madrid forward has agreed a deal "in principle" to join the Red Devils in the summer transfer window.

  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs
  • Arsenal in the front row to sign Dutch striker

  • The Colombian has endured a tough season at Real Madrid, starting only 10 times for Los Blancos and being used in Madrid's "B-Team" for most of the season.

He has not been able to convince Zinedine Zidane to start him in midfield ahead of the brilliant trio of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and most recently Isco. He has not persuaded Zidane to start him ahead of the front trio of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema either.

With limited game time, the 2014 World Cup Golden Boot winner has reportedly been looking for a move since the turn of the year. Now, Colombian radio station RCN Radio has reported that James has agreed to join Jose Mourinho's side in the summer, amidst reports of competition from other Premier League sides.

The exact quote from RCN Radio earlier today was, "James Rodriguez has reached initial agreement to join Manchester United. They say he's told Real Madrid he wants to leave."

It is easy to see why Mourinho would want him at Old Trafford. Even with his limited 10 starts this season, James has recorded 11 goals. In a Manchester United team where they have been lacklustre in front of goal and heavily reliant on Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Mourinho would want to bring in someone who can share the burden of consistently scoring.

Along with the impending arrival of Antoine Griezmann and Gareth Bale, Mourinho will could possibly possess one of the most potent attacking forces in Europe.

Manchester United play Ajax in the Europa League final, where victory would confirm a place in next season's Champions League.
