The Red Devils star has been strongly linked with a surprise move to the Emirates. According to caughtoffside.com, the Portuguese winger is a new target for manager Arsene Wenger.

The 26 year old Portuguese international played a minor role in Manchester United’s Premier League title winning campaign, making just seven starts. He will be chiefly remembered for the harsh red card he was awarded which ended the club’s Champions League campaign against Real Madrid last season.

Nani's first team involvement which has already been constrained by the presence of Danny Welbeck, Luis Valencia and Ashley Young, will be further limited by the arrival of Wilfried Zaha.

Galatasaray looked likely to sign the Old Trafford winger but their £6m bid was turned down straight-out by Manchester United. The Turkish club have now bowed out of the chase to sign the experienced attacker.

Nani has just a year to run on his current contract and the new Manchester United manager David Moyes would want to garner something from the sale of a player that cost them £17m in 2007 rather than see the player leave on a bosman move in 12 months.

Though Arsenal have the likes of Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski to perform the roles, but there still lack an effective alternative. Wenger will also know that Nani would be allowed to leave Manchester United for a fee of around £8m.

Nani is on £90k a week at present and such a wage could be problematic for the Gunners to justify. Juventus, PSG and Monaco are also said to be monitoring Nani’s situation.

Nani has so far made 212 appearances for Man United, scoring 40 goals in the process
