Liverpool get the job done

The boos rang around St. James Park throughout as Liverpool raced to a 3-0 victory against Newcastle to keep their undefeated record in tact. Goals from Gerrard, Kuyt and Babel were enough for the win, and Gerrard was booed by angry England fans - but the attentions of the fans moved to Sam Allardyce later as the Toon Army angrily reacted to a worrying home defeat.

Steven Gerrard silenced the boo-boys with a 28th-minute opener and when Dirk Kuyt added a second within a minute of the restart, the game was over.

Sub Ryan Babel made it 3-0 after 66 minutes and it could have been even worse for the Magpies had Shay Given not mounted a determined, and at times solo, defence of his goal.

Gerrard said afterward: "I've got some big games for Liverpool coming up. I've got to put the England stuff under the carpet for a while and try to play well for Liverpool," Gerrard said on the club’s official website.

"Then when we meet up with England next time we've got to come up with a reaction for the country, and hopefully I'll be part of that."

On being booed at St James’ Park, Gerrard added: "Me and all the other England lads have got to take the criticism.

"We have let the country down by not qualifying, so from now until we get it right we are going to be criticised. I've got enough experience to know that."
