Arsenal could be about to swoop for West Ham United defender Sam Byram, according to reports in Italy.

Tuttomercatoweb claim that Arsenal are considering the 22-year-old right-back as a possible option, should Barcelona make a move for Hector Bellerín.

Byram only signed for West Ham back in January, and has made just four Premier League Appearances for the Hammers.

But it appears that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has seen enough of the youngster to consider him a viable option to take over from Bellerín if the Spanish full-back departs the Emirates.

Barcelona are in the market for a new right-back this summer after losing Dani Alves to Juventus on a free trasnfer. Bellerín is likley to be high on their wish-list considering he was formerly a member of their youth system.

But the Catalan giants may find themselves priced out of any potential move for the Arsenal man, as they are currenlty suffering cash-flow issues due to their inability to secure a new shirt sponsorship deal for next season, while the cost of their wage bill continues to spiral.

There is remains the possibility that Arsenal could hold onto Bellerín and still try to sign Byram, though, as Wenger would surely see it as a preferable situation if the young English defender gets to work under Bellerín for a season, and potentially take over in a year's time if Barcelona come back with a serious offer.
