Arsenal target shows Gunners what they are missing

Alexandre Lacazette news

Arsenal target Lacazette netted a hat-trick in Ligue 1 opener

Arsenal target Alexandre Lacazette scored an impressive hat-trick for Lyon yesterday, showing the Gunners what they are missing as he helped his side secure a victory of Nancy in last season's Ligue 1 runners-up's first league game of the new season.

Arsenal have been in the market for a new striker for most of the summer, having attemped to sign both Jamie Vardy from Leicester and Gonzalo Higuaín from Napoli.

But, despite triggering Vardy's £20 million contractual release clause, the England striker eventually chose to reject the Gunners’ advances in favour of staying with the reigning Premier League champions.

While Arsenal’s player plus cash offer for Higuaín, which would have seen French striker Olivier Giroud moving in the opposite direction, was rejected by Napoli, and the Argentinian ended up joining Italian champions Juventus after the Bianconeri paid his whopping €90 million release clause.

So Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger then turned his attention to Lyon’s Lacazette, launching a £30 million bid for the Frenchman. Their offer was immediately rejected by the Ligue 1 club, and even fell short of the £38 million figure offered by West Ham United earlier in the transfer window.

It is thought that the Gunners may be readying a renewed offer, but it is unlikely to match Lyon’s valuation of the player, which is believed to be in the region of €60 million.
