Srna heading for Arsenal move?

Arsenal could revive their long-standing interest in Darijo Srna with the future of Hector Bellerin hanging in the balance. The 34-year-old is expected to part ways with Shakhtar Donetsk at the earliest opportunity.

Srna is regarded as one of the finest right-backs to have featured over the past decade.

Sources in Croatia suggest that the Gunners could renew their pursuit for Srna, a player who they failed to sign in the summer of 2011.

The veteran defender is expected to end his 13-year association with Shakhtar next year with his agent having already communicated with his suitors over a proposed move.

Spanish champions Barcelona were looking into a deal for Srna last month, but it now seems that they will strengthen their bid to sign Bellerin, thereby urging Arsenal to move in for the Croatian international.

Srna may emerge as a short-term solution for the Gunners with one of Rob Holding or Carl Jenkinson to occupy the right side of the defence in the future.

Bellerin has raised doubts over his Arsenal future after it emerged that his stay would depend on whether manager Arsene Wenger pens an extension (contract expires in June 2017).
