Chelsea linked with ex-Liverpool ace

Chelsea are plotting a surprise bid to bring former Liverpool striker Christian Benteke to Stamford Bridge this month. The Belgian international is currently plying his trade for Crystal Palace.

Benteke, 26, joined the Eagles from Liverpool on a club-record fee in the summer, and has since netted an impressive tally of 10 goals in all competitions.

According to ESPN. the marksman has emerged as a surprise candidate for Blues boss Antonio Conte who is concerned over Diego Costa's future at the club.

Costa is said to have called truce with Conte in recent days, but he could still force through an exit before the winter transfer deadline.

Benteke largely struggled to make an impression under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, and a move to west London would come a huge surprise even for the Blues' faithful.

Swansea City's Fernando Llorente has also been on Chelsea's radar this month, but the speculation seems to have cooled for now.
