Man City monitoring Kimmich

Manchester City have been put on alert after midfielder Joshua Kimmich expressed his disappointment at his lack of playing time under Carlo Ancelotti.

The German international came through an impressive Euro 2016 campaign last summer where they eventually bowed out to France at the semi-final stage.

Kimmich followed to earn a role in the heart of the midfield and was particularly impressive with seven goals to boost during the early stages of the campaign.

Since then, the 22-year-old, who can also feature as a makeshift right-back, has largely warmed the substitutes' bench with Ancelotti in preference of Xabi Alonso and Arturo Vidal in central midfield.

Though Alonso is due to retire from the game this summer, it appears that Bayern could find themselves a top-class replacement with Arsenal's Granit Xhaka deemed to be leading the shortlist.

ESPN today reveals that Kimmich has expressed his frustration at the limited gametime this campaign, and this has captured the attention of former boss Pep Guardiola, who is on the search for midfield reinforcements.

Ilkay Gundogan is expected to return late from his latest knee problem, and this will urge the club to move in for fresh recruits with Yaya Toure and Fernando set to leave at the expiry of their contracts in the summer.
