Chelsea boss wants ex-Man City goalkeeper
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is planning a contract offer for Spanish goalkeeper Willy Caballero who is a free agent after his release from Manchester City.
The former Malaga man amassed 10 clean sheets in 27 outings for the Citizens last season, but this was not sufficient to keep him at the Etihad with City having signed Ederson Moraes from Benfica.
According to The Times, Conte has set his sights on recruiting Caballero following the sale of backup goalkeeper Asmir Begovic to Bournemouth.
Caballero, 35, is said to have offers from both Newcastle United and Chelsea, but a move to Stamford Bridge has appealed him the most with the prospect of earning a decent wage package.
Thibaut Courtois has been the undisputed number one over the past few years, but Conte is still eager to bring in a quality deputy with Eduardo having yet to be tested in the English top flight.
The news will come as a big blow for Magpies boss Rafa Benitez, who was hoping to sign Caballero following an unfruitful approach for Napoli number one Pepe Reina.
