Ray Wilkins slams Chelsea following NGolo Kante injury

Wilkins concerned by Chelsea's limited options in midfield

Chelsea favourite Ray Wilkins has hit out at his former club following a hamstring injury sustained by N'Golo Kante. The 26-year-old suffered the problem during Les Bleus' World Cup qualifier against Bulgaria last Saturday, and this could see him miss a few weeks of first-team action.

Wilkins has previously been critical over the sale of Nemanja Matic to Manchester United, and he has now revealed his frustration with both Kante and Danny Drinkwater on the sidelines.

“I’m annoyed he’s [Nemanja Matic] been allowed to leave Stamford Bridge,” he told Sky Sports. “Kante has injured himself the other night with his thigh, we don’t know if he will be playing at the weekend.

“Matic for me is the best holding midfield player, one of the best in the world anyway. I’m very sad that he’s left.”

Drinkwater sustained a calf injury in early September, and Antonio Conte has yet to provide an update as to when the summer signing will make his Blues' debut.

Tiemoue Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas have not played alongside each other in central midfield since the start of the season, but Conte will have no choice but to pair them for the Crystal Palace game this weekend.

Fabregas has featured in a more attacking role for the Blues this term with the likes of Eden Hazard and Pedro sustaining injuries in the early part of the campaign.
