Arsene Wenger reveals injury blow after Southampton game
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that Henrikh Mkhitaryan has suffered a medial knee ligament damage which is likely to sustained him for the next couple of weeks.
The Armenia international sustained the injury during the Europa League quarter-final first-leg against CSKA Moscow, and it now appears certain that he will miss the return fixture as well as the league games against Newcastle United and West Ham United.
In a report covered by Metro, Wenger said: "Mkhitaryan has a medial knee ligament damage. He will not be available for Thursday, or Newcastle or the week after. He could still play at the end of the season."
Wenger decide to rotate his side for the Southampton game on Sunday, but the Gunners managed to come up with another victory with Danny Welbeck scoring a brace in a 3-2 win.
With the result, the club are now just three points within fifth-placed Chelsea, though their chances of making the Champions League positions via the league phase are over.
