Liverpool to rival Everton for Xherdan Shaqiri

Liverpool are reportedly prepared to challenge AS Roma and Everton in the pursuit of Switzerland international Xherdan Shaqiri. The 26-year-old has already announced his intention to leave Stoke City after they were relegated from the Premier League after a decade-long stay.

According to The Mirror, Jurgen Klopp's side have emerged as the fresh candidates to sign the attacker, who is said to have a £12m relegation release clause on his contract.

Both Roma and local rivals Everton have been tipped to sign the Swiss for a while but they may now face a transfer tussle with the Reds, who are yet to find a replacement for Philippe Coutinho.

Lyon's Nabil Fekir has been tipped to join the Reds in a potential £60m deal of late but they could now set their sights on Shaqiri owing to his cheaper price and experience of playing in the Premier League.

Shaqiri, who is currently with Switzerland in preparation for the summer World Cup, enjoyed his best season in the Stoke shirt last term with eight goals and seven assists in 36 league appearances.
