Chelsea confirm contract agreement with Brazilian star
Chelsea have confirmed that defender David Luiz has committed his future to the club on a fresh two-year contract.
The Brazil international had initially been reluctant to sign an extension beyond the summer, but the Blues have managed to reach a deal after agreeing to his demands for a multi-year contract.
“I love this club. My great moments in football were here, especially the European titles – the Champions League and Europa League," he told the club's official website.
The Blues are currently restricted from making fresh signings for the next two transfer windows and that could be a prime reason behind their decision to sway away from their stricy contract policy for players aged above 30.
The west London giants have been reluctant to offer more than a year's contract for players in that criteria, but they seem to have bent on their policy to extend Luiz's stay.
Blues' captain Gary Cahill is, however, expected to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season. Kurt Zouma is likely to take up his first-team position following his loan stint at Everton.
