Arsenal confirm the signing of David Luiz
Arsenal have announced the signing of defender David Luiz on a permanent basis from Premier League rivals Chelsea.
The Brazil international has joined the Gunners on a two-year contract and is set to wear the number 23 shirt ahead of the forthcoming season.
"David has huge experience and I look forward to working with him again. He is a well known player and adds to our defensive strength," Unai Emery told the club's official website.
The arrival of Luiz is expected to provide the Gunners with the additional quality at the heart of the defence, which has been a point of weakness in past few seasons.
The 32-year-old has already gone through a full pre-season with former club Chelsea, and he could be handed with his debut alongside Sokratis when the Gunners face Newcastle United on the road in the league opener.
Aside from Luiz, the Gunners were able to pursue five more players in Gabriel Martinelli, William Saliba, Dani Ceballos, Nicolas Pepe and Kieran Tierney during the recent transfer window.
