Liverpool defender on the verge of Roma move?

Lovren to Roma?

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren could make the move to the Serie A this summer with Roma opening talks with his representatives regarding an initial season-long loan deal.

The centre-back is currently the fourth-choice centre-back in the Reds ranks and he was not involved in the season opener against Norwich City with Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk making the lineup while Joel Matip was left on the bench.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma director Gianluca Petrachi is said to have already held discussions with Lovren's entourage and the Italian side are optimistic of pushing through a transfer agreement.

The Giallorossi are aiming to sign the 2018 World Cup finalist on an initial loan deal with the option to buy for around £17m at the conclusion of the 2019/2020 campaign.

Lovren has made 170 appearances for the European champions since arriving from Southampton in the summer of 2014. He has struggled to cement a regular starting role since last season with Matip and Gomes getting the nod ahead of him to partner Van Dijk in central defence.
