Arsenal boss Unai Emery is prepared to sanction the sale of Nacho Monreal before the European transfer deadline, should the Spaniard request to part ways with the side.

The Spain international has racked more than 250 appearances during the past six years with the Gunners but he has recently been fancied to join Real Sociedad before the European transfer deadline.

According to The Mirror, Emery is pleased with the performances of Monreal this term and he is willing to keep hold of the Spaniard for the season such that he can leave on a free transfer when his contract expires next summer.

However, the final decision depends on the experienced defender and Emery won't block his departure, should he want a fresh challenge before the September 2 deadline.

Real Sociedad are presently leading the race to sign the former Malaga man and reports suggest that a fee of around £3m would be sufficient to finalise a transfer agreement between the sides.

Should Monreal leave the club, Sead Kolasinac will be expected to command the left-back duties until summer signing Kieran Tierney retains his full fitness after a double hernia operation.
