City to pursue a new central defender

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will reportedly consider a move for a new central defender in January following a long-term knee injury for Aymeric Laporte.

The Frenchman picked up the damage during the recent league clash against Brighton & Hove Albion and he has since undergone a surgery which will keep him out of action for a number of months.

This has left the Citizens with just two senior centre-backs in the form of Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones and the latter has been struggling with a minor injury which has kept him out of three of the opening four league games.

According to The Mirror, the reigning league champions could enter the market for a fresh recruit this winter as they seek to give the best chance to win the Champions League as well as defend their domestic trophies.

At present, Guardiola can utilise either Kyle Walker or Fernandinho in the centre of the defence but neither are specialised at playing in the position for a sustained period of time.
