Liverpool confirm injury boost for key defender
Liverpool have confirmed that defender Joel Matip has returned to training ahead of the Premier League clash against Manchester United this weekend.
The 28-year-old picked up a knock during the 1-0 league triumph over Sheffield United and he was subsequently left out of the matchday squads against Red Bull Salzburg and Leicester City.
However, ahead of the Red Devils clash, the Cameroonian defender has resumed training and the same has been confirmed through the club's official website.
"Joel Matip resumed training at Melwood on Tuesday morning after recovering from a knock sustained prior to the international break," a statement read.
Liverpool are presently at the top of the Premier League standings after making the perfect start to the campaign. They are already eight points ahead of second-placed Manchester City.
The Merseyside giants don't have the best of records against United with just one win from the past 10 meetings but they have an excellent chance to secure three points on Sunday with United struggling for form.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are already 15 points behind the Reds on the table and they have managed just one victory from the previous seven Premier League games.
